Paul Bigsby and Merle Travis
An early solid-body electric guitar
Country picker Merle Travis sketched a solid-body guitar and Paul Bigsby built it in 1948, with all the tuners on one side. Solid bodies could be played loud without feeding back. Bigsby's vibrato tailpiece is still made.
Still heard: Solid-body twang, and the Bigsby wobble on country and rockabilly guitars.
