Clyde Stubblefield's "Funky Drummer"
James Brown's drummer
James Brown built funk on "the One", the downbeat everyone hits together. Stubblefield's short drum break on "Funky Drummer" became one of the most sampled recordings ever.
Still heard: Ghost notes and that loose snare are still the funk and hip-hop pocket.
