Headley Grange Stairwell
Led Zeppelin, engineered by Andy Johns
For "When the Levee Breaks", John Bonham's kit sat at the bottom of a stairwell in an old English house, with mics hung high up the stairs. Johns added echo, and the result is one of the most sampled drum sounds ever.
Still heard: Heavy room mics and that Levee break turn up in rock and hip-hop alike.
