King Tubby
Inventor of dub
An electronics repairman in Kingston, Tubby remixed reggae riddims on his console, dropping instruments in and out and drowning them in spring reverb, echo and filter sweeps. The mix itself became the performance.
Still heard: Dub's echoes and drop-outs live in house, dubstep, hip-hop and every remix.
