Pierre Schaeffer
Father of musique concrète
Working in French radio, Schaeffer made music from recorded sounds like trains, looping and cutting records and tape. His "Étude aux chemins de fer" (1948) is music built from train sounds.
Still heard: Sampling, sound design and found-sound beats all trace back to his studio.
