Timbaland
Producer for Aaliyah and Missy Elliott
Timbaland built beats from stutters, gaps, baby coos and beatboxed sounds, like on Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" (1998). Space in the beat became as important as the hits.
Still heard: Syncopated, sparse drums in R&B and pop.
