Alan Blumlein
EMI engineer, inventor of stereo
In 1931 Blumlein patented what he called binaural sound, the basis of stereo. He also gave us the Blumlein pair of crossed figure-8 mics and mid/side recording.
Still heard: Every stereo width control, including the Meter's width reading, stands on his patent.
