Charlie Christian
Electric guitar pioneer
Playing a Gibson ES-150 with Benny Goodman from 1939, Christian took the amplified guitar out of the rhythm section and played horn-like solos. He died at 25, but changed the instrument for good.
Still heard: The guitar as a lead voice, in jazz, blues and rock.
