The Dopyera Brothers and the Dobro
Resonator guitar inventors
John Dopyera put aluminum cones inside a guitar body to make it louder before electric pickups existed. The National and then the Dobro resonator guitars became the bright, metallic voice of country blues and bluegrass.
Still heard: Dobro slide is a core bluegrass sound.
