Dr. Dre and G-Funk
Producer, The Chronic
Rather than loop P-Funk records, Dre had musicians replay and rework them, with deep bass, laid-back drums and whining high synth leads. The Chronic (1992) set the West Coast sound.
Still heard: Replayed samples, clean low end and that synth whine.
