The Pultec EQP-1A
Passive tube EQ by Pulse Techniques
Ollie Summerland and Gene Shenk's equalizer has separate boost and cut knobs for the low end. Engineers learned to turn both up at the same frequency, which adds weight while tucking away the mud right above it.
Still heard: The "Pultec trick" is still how a lot of kicks and 808s get their size.
