J Dilla
Detroit producer
Dilla played drums on his MPC without snapping them to the grid, so they swung and dragged like a live drummer. Donuts came out days before he died in 2006.
Still heard: Off-grid, "drunk" drums are the soul of lo-fi and neo-soul.
